And here is a really fucked up image from the games often disturbing depictions of Nazi experimentation / torture of Humans that allow the games story to keep this serious and often unsettling tone (in the best way possible) while the over the top realism and perhaps controversial (I am surprised the game hasn't been all over the news for the concentration camp scenes or ... this scene of torture (this is just about as the torture is finished but not quite o.O - This scene I believe would dethrone the "HOLY AHHHH ARGHHH OMFG WTF WTF WTF" sort of mindset that people had during DEAD SPACE 2 when the needle could stab you straight through the eye that was being forced open. -- VISCERAL doesn't know torture like ex-Starbreeze masterminds at Bethesda owned studio Machine Games do. Warning - This game is awesome and features scenes that are FUCKED UP BEYOND ALL RHYME OR REASON! Well I suppose a perfect reason would be to display the disgusting things the NAZI SCUM did in the game world to allow you to have an appreciation for what the US or at the point in the game when you see this scene; The resistance force led by Caroline Becker's planning and BJ's John Rambo(Carmack) style front-line One Man Army'n - This scene may be considered a spoiler; but shows how using a main / central character to the games story in a death sequence always becomes memorable in gaming; but when it is a death like this - it allows it be memorable and make you REALLY fucking hate whomever caused this to happen - You really REALLY dislike General Deathshead prior to this; and afterwards you just want to torture him doing far worse.... It is 3200x1800 in resolution and would make a fucking awesome Desktop Wallpaper if you want co-workers to think you are a sick fuck!
3200x1800 most fucked up shit ever. RAGE - 780 ti SLI - 24x24 Textures MP footage + Wolfenstein TNO 1080P vs 3200x1800
Megatextures in id tech 5 initially seemed to be underwhelming in performance and looks due to poor driver support and the hardware being insufficient to properly load textures at a fast enough rate for 1920x1080 set ups - Recently (6/26/2014) I was playing Wolfenstein the New Order which for me in 1920x1080 stands out as one of the most gorgeous games I have played - Once I upped the resolution using my G-Sync Asus monitor (Which prior to the installation of G-Sync I was unable to create any resolutions above 1920x1080) - I started to play a ton of games in 3200x1800 which added this astonishing texture resolution quality to all titles; but while Playing Wolfentein The New Order I noticed how much "Prettier" it seemed but at the same time I noticed the quality of textures was slightly lesser in small areas of the surroundings to aid in compensation for having to render the textures at such as huge Resolution - Thus I was for the first time experience Texture Pop-Ins that are similiar to the original pop-ins AMD users experienced at the launch of RAGE - Leading me to confirm that in order for id tech 5 to run an amazing megatexture title such as Wolfenstein in fluidity with your system you need Video Memory speeds /FASTER/ than the fastest which is what I was using; and that is the 7000MHz transfer of the 780 Ti (I use 2 in SLI) - Also the Titan Z has now been released as the second card to boast such fast speeds - at 1920x1080 Wolfenstein will never have any texture pops and is an astonishingly beautiful experience that rivals any other title, although if you are using an older card Maximum advanced megatexture settings (64; 8000+ no compression, everything on ultra, high-resolution textures, DoF, Lens Flare etc) you will not be able to experience it in fluiditiy.
This brings HUGE longevity to the id tech 5 engine which Carmack stated would "Scale for 8-10 years as an equal to other game engines, as time moves forward the engine allows for more realistic textures and effects depending on the artists choice" as the id tech 5 engine is really all about the art and design aspect of the game engine world; allowing artists to make every inch different or detailed to their liking - as time moved on from RAGE which I now can play at 24x24 locked at 60 FPS on G-Sync; or 42x42 which sometimes bobs down to 45ish FPS but still no texture popping and it looked (prior to wolfenstein) like a title that had just come out.
Here is a comparison shot of 1920x1080 all ultra settings at 8K+ megatexture buffering - then 3200x1800 at 4K buffering and all the ultra settings aside from that still on.
